[December 16th, 2000] When Maugee's new enclosure is built, I will change the name of this section to "Maugee's Habitat."  For now, it is "Maugee's House," because the dog cage we currently have her in (graciously given to us by Candi, Mike, and Kahill -- thanks so much, you guys!), while generous enough in size for a dog, does not deserve the term "habitat" for a five-year-old iguana.  It's more like a prison cell for her, and I am so sorry to her that I have kept her in it for so long.  I always planned on building her a nice, large enclosure with the perfect temperature and great environment... but as you know (if you've read About Maugee), I have yet to do that.
          In her cage right now, she has a folded beach towel, safety pinned to the sides of the cage, hanging diagonally -- hard to picture but you'll understand when I upload a photo -- that's her hammock.  She's got a basking light, night-time heat light, UVB light, and two incandescent heat lights.  Everything is on a timer.  She's got great food/water bowls which are very easy to clean/disinfect -- I'll find out what company makes them and let you know.  The substrate I use is simply newspaper with paper towels taped to it -- I will upload photos soon.  Thank you SO much to James W. Hatfield (Iguana Jim!) and his "Green Iguana:  The Ultimate Owner's Manual" for sharing that great "recipe" for the perfect substrate!  You're a genius!!).
          I am in the midst of planning and purchasing the materials for The Ultimate Iguana Habitat, as outlined in "Green Iguana:  The Ultimate Owner's Manual" by James W. Hatfield III (see Maugee's Library for more information).  It's eight feet wide, four feet deep, and nearly seven feet tall.  Quite a project, but well worth it for Maugee.  I will update this section with news on Maugee's new home as often as I can.  Since I am not skilled in carpentry, I am hoping to have it done by June!  LOL :)  Send a few prayers my way, and maybe I'll have it done even sooner.  Check back often!
