Maugee's Current Basic Diet*:
collard/mustard/dandelion greens
winter squash (orange squash)
green beans/pea pods
parsnips
multivitamin supplement
calcium supplement

Maugee's Former Diet**:
escarole
parsley
commercial dry iguana food

December 16th - So far Maugee has been doing quite well on her new diet.  I'm unsure of whether or not I should be feeding her parsnips for protein... there is such conflict over whether or not protein can be a problem for iguanas.  I'm doing my research, and I will let you know what I finally decide for Maugee.  I've had to mix escarole and some parsley into her food for a while, in order to get her to eat it (she was somewhat addicted to them), but now she is used to it.  She's not eating as much as she used to, but the amount is gradually increasing each day, so I know we're on the right track.  If you haven't read the text at the right, please do -- you'll find some interesting information about commercial iguana food.  I have not had good experiences with it -- Maugee grew rapidly, but there were side effects.  Check it out before you read any further.

**Recommended by our vet.  He felt that by feeding her a mixture of greens and commercial food, we'd be giving her everything she needed without any doubts.  I believe that the commercial food contained too much protein and salt.  Once I stopped feeding it to Maugee, I was no longer allergic to her feces as much (previously I could not even enter the room after she defecated), and she stopped sneezing (snorting) salt out of her nose so much.  She's in a dog cage, which is rather "open," so when she would sneeze, it would get all over our mirrored blinds in the family room.  This salt literally ate through the mirrored coating before we had a chance to clean it off, and destroyed our blinds.  Since I've stopped feeding her commercial iguana food, she snorts perhaps once a day, and it wipes off with water.  I can find no other explanation for this.
